Artful Bake is a home bakery in Swords, Co. Dublin. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at artfulbake@protonmail.com.

There is no account, no order form and no newsletter sign-up on this site. We use no analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking cookies, so there is nothing to consent to and no cookie banner to dismiss.

The only thing stored in your browser is a reminder of whether you dismissed the “install this site as an app” prompt. That stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Every booking happens in a WhatsApp conversation. In that chat we see your WhatsApp number, whatever name your profile shows, and whatever you choose to tell us — the cake you want, the date, a delivery address if you need one, and any allergies.

We use this to answer you and to bake and hand over your cake. Our legal basis is the performance of our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in replying to an enquiry that has not yet become an order. WhatsApp itself is operated by Meta, which processes the message on its own terms — the same as any other WhatsApp chat you have.

Allergy information is health data, which the law protects more strictly. We only ask for it so we can bake safely and label your cake correctly, we only use it for that, and you are telling us voluntarily and explicitly when you send it.

When a booking is confirmed we record it in our own admin system: your name, your phone number, the cake and its options, the date, pickup or delivery, the address if it is a delivery, the agreed price, and any allergy or design notes. We add your email address only if you gave us one — we do not ask for it.

We keep this because we have to be able to bake the right cake for the right person on the right day, label it correctly for allergens, and keep the records a food business is required to keep. Order records are kept for six years to meet tax and food-safety obligations, then deleted.

Our website and database are hosted by Render and Neon, and our photos by Cloudflare, within or on terms covering the EU. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not send it to any AI service.

The Instagram photos on our homepage are loaded directly from Meta's servers, which means Meta can see your IP address when that section loads, as it would on any page showing Instagram content.

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, or object to our use of it. Email artfulbake@protonmail.com and we will respond within one month. Deleting your WhatsApp chat on your own phone does not reach our copy, so tell us if that is what you want.

Some records we may have to keep even if you ask us to delete them, where tax or food-safety law requires it. We will tell you if that applies.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

This site is for people ordering cakes and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly record information about a child, and we have no reason to ask for anyone's age or date of birth.
